Dan Petty is the son of Reavis Petty, a long-time gospel preacher (retired). Dan was born in Tennessee and grew up in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. He and his wife Kathy have three children and four grandchildren.

Dan has been preaching the gospel for more than 30 years and has worked with local congregations in Florida, Kentucky, and Texas. He now serves as an elder and evangelist for the Lutz church of Christ in Lutz, Florida.

Dan joined the faculty of Florida College in 1989 to teach social science, Bible, and church history. From 1991 to 2001 he served as Dean of Student Services. He is currently chairman of the Biblical Studies Department (since 2001).
